Facts About Italy Postal Code

Italian Postal Codes are five digit numerical codes, for instance, 20121 for Milan. Italy created its first postal codes in 1967, which are commonly know as CAP (Postal Sending Codes) like ZIP codes in the United States. The first two digits in any Postal Codes in Italy indicate the administrative province, which could be same for two provinces if any province has been split in two provinces after 1967. The third digit of Italian Postal Codes denotes whether the town is the chief town of that province or not, if yes, it is denoted by Odd Number usually 1 or 9 and if not, it is indicated by Even Number, usually 0 or 8.

The last two digits in the Italian Postal Codes specify the town, village or delivery post office. In the metropolitan cities such as Milan, Rome, Naples and Venice, the last digit denote the urban postal district. Moreover, the Vatican City and San Marino are also integrated in the Postal Codes of Italy.
